5 Local Favorites in Newport Beach

When in Newport Beach there is so much to do and so much to see.

Here are a few of my favorites from the lens of an Orange County native.

The Wedge

A local hot spot for extreme surf & bodysurfing.

Located at the far end of Balboa Peninsula.

The Wedge is known to create the biggest swells in SoCal
On a calm day at the Wedge you can soak up that beautiful shoreline view

Local Legend Surfer Van

An epic array of peace, Jesus, and Super rad stickers.

If you’re from Newport Beach you know what I’m talking about. The owner of this van is a surfing legend of Newport Beach. He is always found near the Newport Beach pier getting in some surf early in the day. His van is decked out in super rad stickers, not to mention that Surf for Christ addition to this spare tire. My favorite part of the van is the peace sign above the front windshield. I love to see it out and about near the beach, reminding me of that hippie lifestyle I secretly dream of living. A laid back lifestyle of beach, surf, and sunshine.

Surfer Dogs

Hang out at the Newport Beach Pier and if you’re lucky you’ll spot some local surfer dogs riding waves like a pro. It’s the little things in life that make me so happy.

A great surfing spot for dogs right next to the Newport Beach Pier

Local Hero Ben Carlsen

Ben Carlsen was a Newport Beach lifeguard who lost his life during a rescue in the summer of 2014. He remains the only lifeguard in the United States to lose his life in the line of duty.

The statue of Ben Carlsen is located by the Newport Beach Pier

CDM State Beach

Corona Del Mar is a beautiful seaside spot within the Newport Beach community. Corona Del Mar means “Crown of the Sea”, and is locally referred to as CDM. On a clear and sunny day Inspiration Point at CDM State Beach offers the most breathtaking ocean views.
